Giving gifts this Christmas

2  days until Christmas!!!

Have you received or given Christmas presents yet?

When I was working for part-time at a department store in Australia, I felt warm and blessed seeing people buying Christmas presents to those who they loved!

I’ll share Luke’s message about Christmas gifts… it was amazing!

Giving gifts this Christmas

Gifts that you can give  this Christmas

Give someone hospitality- generosity to those who don’t know Jesus

1 Peter 4:8-10 (TNIV)
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. [9] Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. [10] Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

In the bible, one of the requirements in church was being a hospitable person.

I encourage you to give hospitality, be generous this Christmas!

Especially if you are a Christian, be generous to those who don’t know Jesus yet.  Express God’s love through your generosity.

Generosity comes in different forms.  Being generous in finance, time, words and relationships.

Did you know that you need to plan to be generous?

If you want to bless someone by your money, you can plan it by setting aside money to be generous.

In other words, if you are thinking “when I have money leftover, you won’t find the right timing.”

The world says if you give you will “lose”. But the bible says, “It is more blessed than to receive”, you are blessed to be a blessing to others.

The truth is no matter how much you give, you can never out give God!

You don’t need a lot of money to be generous. If you are a student, planning to bless someone could be setting a side the money to buy a coke to a friend.

If you are working, maybe you can buy dinner for someone. If you plan this it will get really exciting!!

Give someone friendship.

Proverbs 18:16 (TNIV)
A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great.

Proverbs 22:11 (TNIV)
One who loves a pure heart and who speaks with grace will have the king for a friend.

I’m noticing more and more that many people do not have real friends.

A lot of people are amazed how friendly this church is!!

And most people in this church will say, they kept on coming to this church before they received Jesus because people were friendly to them.

So how can you give friendship to someone?

Smiling is the first step.

You might think this is too simple but so many people look really serious when they are not aware.

Also, invite someone to your circle of friends!! Include them into your world.

I encourage you to initiate friendship!

Most of my friends that I have, I initiated it.  I called them first and kept on reaching out to them.

A lot of people are not confident  enough and just wait for people to come to them.  Some people get bitter because people don’t come and talk to them.

Let’s  not be the passive one. Be the initiator.  Smile and encourage other people.

Christians, don’t just hang around with Christian people. Be a friend to someone who doesn’t have friends and who needs to know about Jesus!

Give someone a chance to meet Jesus!

John 1:40-42 (TNIV)
Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. [41] The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). [42] And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter ).

This year we had more than 1000 new people in church and many joined lifegroup!

Church grows by people bringing people.  Everyone has a role to play!!

So let’s not get tired of bringing people.

Sharing about Jesus is like lighting candles.

You can light the candles around you by sharing about Jesus.

And when the first candle lights up the other candles, guess what? It doesn’t lose light!

Some people talk about the darkness, how Japan is dark etc. But I’m not interested in that! I’m more interested in the lights spreading all across Japan.

And you can influence the people around you!!

You don’t need to memorize the bible cover by cover to share your faith to friends. You don’t need to know the answer for everything.

What you can do, which is very powerful, is that you can share your STORY.

How your life was changed by Jesus.

What your life used to be like before you met Jesus, how you met Jesus and how your life has changed.

Nothing is more powerful than your story. People can’t deny it. You can’t fake it!

So this Christmas, why don’t you share your story with someone?

You’ll never know who will be interested!!  If you don’t sow, you will reap nothing! But if you keep on sowing, you will never know which one will grow.

This Christmas, why don’t you give someone hospitality, friendship and a chance to meet Jesus?

You can do it!!!

And for those who don’t know Jesus yet, the best thing that you can do is to receive the best Christmas present ever!!!

Christmas is the time when people are open to Jesus.  Usually people who are reluctant to go to church find it easier to visit church around this season.

Why don’t you take a step forward and come to church this Christmas?
