Forgiveness brings freedom

Luke’s yesterday’s remix message  was really moving!!!

I believe it was a life changing message for many people. Many people told us that from this message they decided to forgive their fathers and other people… Awesome!

I will share what really spoke to me, but I really want you to listen to the whole message!!!

Forgiveness brings freedom

Do you have someone that you cannot forgive?

Forgiveness is the key of moving on in your life!!

Matthew 18:21-35 (TNIV)
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive someone who sins against me? Up to seven times?” [22] Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.
[23] “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.

[24] As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold was brought to him. [25] Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt. [26] “The servant fell on his knees before him. `Be patient with me,’ he begged, `and I will pay back everything.’ [27] The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.

[28] “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins. He grabbed him and began to choke him. `Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded. [29] “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, `Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.’

[30] “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. [31] When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened. [32] “Then the master called the servant in. `You wicked servant,’ he said, `I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. [33] Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ [34] In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed. [35] “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive a brother or sister from your heart.”

You have been forgiven if you have received Jesus.

Romans 5:8 (ESV)… but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

When we receive Jesus, our sins are forgiven, which means that all of our bad actions, words and thoughts are forgiven and we become new!

It’s important to have this confidence that we are completely forgiven through Christ before we forgive others.

We must forgive

Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive others when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Colossians 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

God is clearly telling us to forgive.  If you love God, forgiving is not an option but it is a must!!!

What does forgiving look like?

It means “release or send away”

Have you ever fed a stray cat?

If you feed a stray cat, that cat will visit your house everyday.

But if you don’t feed that cat, that cat won’t come back.

Unforgiveness is like feeding a stray cat.

Bitterness, pain, grudge, anger,  will come to you over and over again.

Forgiving someone is like not feeding the cat. You will release it and say “good bye!” You might need to do it many times. But it’s so important to release!!!

Unforgiveness is like a jail In your heart.

Maybe you can’t really forgive someone so you have built a jail in your heart so no one can touch it.

You might be successful at preventing bad things to come in but at the same time, did you know that good things can’t come in?

It excludes God and  great relationships!

Un-forgiveness leads to torment.

Did you know that we have to pay money to get rid of tires?

There is a problem with tire disposal that no matter how deep you bury it, it will eventually rise to the surface.

If you don’t forgive someone and try to bury it deep down in you, the same thing will happen!!

No matter how much  you fake it, it will come up to the surface.

It will pile up and it will lead to torment.

Luke couldn’t forgive his father for a long time when he was younger and even after he became a Christian when he was 14, he was still holding on to unforgiveness.

He gave his father a silent treatment for a long time.

But no one outside his family knew about this. He pretended as if nothing was wrong with him.

But one day when he was with his youth leader, his youth leader said this to him.

“Luke, God is telling me that there is something wrong between you and your father. How is your relationship with your father?”

That moment, Luke was shocked. “No one was supposed to know this! Why?”

At the same time, he couldn’t stop crying. He noticed how much his unforgiving heart was affecting him.

That day Luke prayed to God and decided to release his unforgiving heart.

Unforgiveness tortures yourself more than anyone else.

It’s like wishing the other person to die while you drink the poison!!

Most of the time, that person doesn’t even realize that you are feeling like that.

That is why I want to encourage you today.

Don’t let one experience or one person control you anymore.

Don’t let one experience or someone have one more minute of control.

Maybe you might be thinking, “In my case, I can’t forgive that person. Because he/she did something really terrible to me.”

But I want you to forgive and release that  for your future.

I don’t want you to waste years of your life, the one life that you have.

forgiveness is not the same as trust.

Forgiveness and trust are different.

For example, if I lend a car to someone and that person steals my car, I will forgive that person, but I won’t lend that person my car key anymore.

Forgiving is releasing it to God.

Forgiveness is a choice, followed by a feeling.

Someone might say, “I will forgive when I FEEL ready”  or “I can’t forgive because I don’t FEEL like it.”

Forgiveness is not a feeling.

As Christians, we shouldn’t follow our feelings. We  follow the word of God.

Even if you don’t FEEL like it, release it again and again

If you decide to forgive, God will make you free from the inside!!

Luke decided to forgive his father and released his feelings everyday and one day when he hugged his father and said to him, “I love you” it was like a weight lifted off his shoulder. He felt so free in the inside! He was filled with joy!

At the same time he wished he had done that earlier.

Have you seen a bad movie that you actually left the cinema in the middle?

Do you there is actually someone who will pay to go back again and see the bad movie that they quit watching in the middle?

No one will do that!!

Unforgiveness is like repeating a bad movie in your head.

Let’s stop watching that bad movie, let’s see a good movie instead!!!!

Perhaps you are thinking that you can’t do it.

It’s true that you can’t completely forgive someone by your own strengths.

Sometimes even when you forgive someone, the other person might not change at all.

But when you decide to forgive someone and release it many times, God will definitely make you free on the inside!!

Is there anyone you need to forgive today?

Let’s give that unforgiving heart to God and move forwards!!!

If you are reading this blog,  why don’t you take a step forward and come to church ?

We’re waiting to see you!!!
