Next steps series-Journaling

I’ve started a new series on this blog from this week!

Next steps”

If you received Jesus but wondering, “what should I do next?”

or “how can I grow as a Christian?”

I want to answer some of these questions throughout the series.

We will start ‘Next steps’ series at Tuesday night church!

This will be also useful for those who have been a Christian for a while. Come along and learn something so you can help out your friend who just made a decision!

Today, I want to share about “Journalling”

– Learning to hear the voice of God daily

In our church, we strongly recommend people to journal!

We believe that JOURNALING is the key to Christian growth!

Through hearing the bible we can receive God’s wisdom and He will reveal truth about life and how to live.
God’s word is living and powerful and it can help us everyday.

Matthew 4:4 NLT
But Jesus told him, “No! The Scripture say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God’.

You will get confident by hearing the voice of the father everyday.

The point is not just reading the bible but writing down what you’ve received!!

Writing it down help us remember and is a reminder of what God is saying to us.

Habakkuk 2:2-3 The Message (MSG)And then God answered: “Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision-message is a witness pointing to what’s coming. It aches for the coming—it can hardly wait! And it doesn’t lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time.

Write down the revelation. – not a book review. Not an intellectual argument.

What’s God saying to YOU today?

Make it simple so you can run with it. Boys, get to the point! Get confident at saying this is what’s saying to me.

The goal of journaling is not about lengths the point is to be fresh. Everyday having something in your heart from God!

God will talk to the young men like men- get confidence. “I’m with you, proud of you, change. Even when your down I’m with you.”

He will speak to the girls like a father- even if you don’t have a father, or a good father.

This should be an exciting things for you to get to know the voice of your perfect heavenly father.

Get to know him as father!

If you miss a day, that’s okay. Just try again!

Many people stop journaling when they forget to do it one day or so, because they become full of guilt. But those people have moved to legalism or rules.

If you forget to do it one day or even a week, don’t give up!

Come back to God today with an open heart and get ready for God to speak to you again through his word.

God doesn’t have a check list in heaven making sure that you don’t miss a day.

But by continuing to journal, your relationship with God will get stronger and your foundation will become more solid. Your worries will most likely get solved too!

Other benefits of journaling:

1. It’s going to help men learn communication. (Because you will need to summarise your thoughts)
2. Helps me learn to summarise what God is saying to me.
3. Overtime I get a big picture of the theme for my life. ( vision)
4. Don’t need to rely on leaders to be fed spiritually. You are constantly filled with God everyday!

I’ll just quickly share how to journal 🙂

1) Write down the date

2)Next to the date, leave a blank space to write down the theme later

3) Read and think about today’s scripture

4) Write down key thoughts from that scripture

5) Next to the key thoughts write down a short prayer.

6) Write down the theme (one sentence)

Example (My Journal):

December 19th  ‘Don’t worry and trust God!”

6:25−34 (I’m just posting the scripture here so you can read it too!)

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

– Worry doesn’t change anything.
– God knows all my need so I just need to focus on putting God first.

– I’ve been currently worrying about **** but I will make a decision to trust in God in that area and don’t worry!

– God, I decide not to worry today. Please help me with my need!

If you are not a Christian or if you haven’t journalled before, you might say,
“It seems hard”
“can’t be bothered! I’m busy!”

“I read the Bible so I don’t need to write things down.”

And it is challenging at the beginning to journal everyday.
But I can say this with confidence.

JOURNALING WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! You’ll be closer to God.  Most of the problems are solved by journaling

If you miss a day, don’t worry! Just try again the next day. God wants to speak to your life so get ready for something new everyday!!!
